Nimrod MR2 Dawn Patrol - Limited Edition Print
Based at Royal Air Force Kinloss and known as the Mighty Hunter, the Nimrod MR2 maritime patrol aircraft is being withdrawn from service a year early on 31 March 2010 after 40 years valuable service. This limited edition print was issued to mark the first anniversary of the tragic loss of Nimrod XV230 and Crew 3 of 120 Squadron over Afghanistan on 2 September 2006. Signed copies of this stunning print are still available. Ideal for those looking for a momento to mark the Nimrod MR2 going out of service.
The Nimrod was in the forefront of the UK's defence against the Soviet Navy and nuclear submarines during the Cold War. Flying from RAF St Mawgan and RAF Kinloss, the Mighty Hunter with its sophisticated avionics and highly trained crews was considered the best sub hunter in the world. It also specialised in long range search and rescue and as an airborne coordination centre for operations such as the Piper Alpha disaster. More recently, the Nimrod gained an overland role operating over both Iraq and Afghanistan supporting ground troops. The MR2 with eventually be succeeded by the new Nimrod MRA4.
The limited edition prints are available framed or unframed for £135 and £95 respectively. Simply call 07971 546303 or email mail@awgphotography.co.uk to order your own copy.
